What a garage door really costs in Northern Ireland
Almost every garage door quote you see online is a door-only price. It excludes measuring, removal of the old door, fixings, a motor, remotes and the labour to hang it straight in an opening that is rarely square. That is why a £399 headline turns into a very different invoice.
This page sets out how we price work from our Dromore yard, what typically changes the number, and where it is genuinely worth spending more. Every figure here is a fitted price including removal and disposal of your existing door.

The three things that move the price most
Size, insulation and automation account for most of the spread between a budget door and a premium one. Everything else — colour, handle style, vision panels — moves the number far less than people expect.
- Width: a single opening under 2.4 m uses stock sizes. Anything wider, or a double opening, moves you into made-to-measure fabrication.
- Insulation: a single-skin slat is cheapest. A double-skin insulated door costs more but changes how usable an attached garage is in winter.
- Automation: a motor, two remotes and a manual release is the single biggest optional line on most quotes.
- Opening condition: rotten timber frames, out-of-square brickwork or a low lintel add preparation time.

Costs people forget to budget for
None of these are hidden charges — they are simply lines that a website price list never shows. We put each of them on the written quote so there is nothing to discover on install day.
- Electrical supply: a motorised door needs a socket in reach. If there is none, allow for an electrician.
- Frame replacement where the existing timber subframe has failed.
- Making good internal plaster or render where an old up-and-over frame is removed.
- Battery backup if your only route into the house is through the garage.
Where paying more is worth it — and where it is not
Insulation and motor quality are the two upgrades customers rarely regret. A better motor is quieter, has a soft start and stop, and lasts through far more cycles; insulation pays back every winter if the garage shares a wall with the house.
Conversely, exotic finishes and glazing panels add cost without changing how the door performs. If a budget is tight, spend it on the door construction first and the colour second.

- Is £789 a real fitted price or a starting headline?
- It is a fitted price for a manual compact roller door on a standard single opening, including removal and disposal of your existing door. Wider openings, insulation and automation move it up, and the survey confirms the figure before you commit.
- Do you charge for the survey or the quote?
- No. The site measure and the written quote are free, and there is no obligation attached to either.
- Is an electric door much more than a manual one?
- On a like-for-like roller, automation typically adds a few hundred pounds including the motor, two remotes and a manual release. It is usually cheaper to specify it at install than to retrofit later.
- Can you price from photos instead of visiting?
- We can give an indicative range from photos and rough measurements, which suits people comparing options. We only issue a fixed price after measuring the opening.
- Do you offer finance?
- We do not run a finance scheme. Payment is on completion for most residential jobs, with agreed terms on commercial work.
