What happens on garage door installation day
Most people have never had a garage door replaced and reasonably want to know how disruptive it is. The short answer: a standard single door is usually a same-day job, and the garage is only fully open to the elements for part of it.
Here is the whole sequence, in the order it happens.

Before the day
The free survey establishes the exact opening size, headroom, side room and power position, and confirms your finish. Made-to-measure doors are then ordered against those site-checked figures.
We agree an install date once the door lands with us, so you are not waiting at home for a delivery that has not arrived.
- Clear a working area of roughly two metres inside and outside the opening.
- Move anything fragile away from the walls either side.
- Make sure a socket is available if the door is being automated.
- Park elsewhere for the day — the van needs to be close to the opening.
On the day
The old door and any redundant subframe come out first, and we take them away with us. The opening is then checked and prepared, the new frame is fixed and levelled, and the door is hung and adjusted.
Automated doors then get the operator mounted, safety cut-outs tested, travel limits set and remotes paired. We run the door repeatedly before we call it finished.
Handover
We show you the manual release, run through the controls, explain the small amount of maintenance the door needs, and leave the warranty paperwork with you.
If anything is not sitting right afterwards, we come back. We are based in Dromore, so return visits are straightforward rather than a subcontractor lottery.
Questions we get asked
- How long does a single door take?
- Most straightforward single-door installations are completed in a single visit. Doubles, awkward openings and jobs needing frame work can run longer, and we will say so in advance.
- Do you take the old door away?
- Yes — removal and disposal is included free on new installs. Nothing is left in your driveway.
- Do I need to be home all day?
- We need access at the start and about ten minutes at handover. Many customers arrange to be back for the afternoon.
- What if something does not fit on the day?
- It is rare because we site-measure before ordering. If it happens, we make the opening secure, take the problem away with us and return with the corrected item — you are not left with an open garage.
- Is there any making good afterwards?
- Removing an old subframe can disturb plaster or render. We tidy the reveal, and we will tell you at survey if we expect any decorating to be needed.
