The check nobody makes
Before condemning the motor, disconnect it and operate the door by hand. If the door is stiff, heavy or unbalanced manually, the operator is not the problem — it is a victim of it. Fitting a new motor to an unbalanced door simply kills the new motor.
Repair or replace the operator
Where parts are available and the unit is not decades old, repair is normally the sensible route. Obsolete units with no parts support, or motors that have been running against a failing door for a long time, are better replaced with a correctly sized operator.

Questions we get asked
- Why does the door reverse straight after closing?
- Usually the safety photocells are dirty or misaligned, or the closing force limit is set too sensitively. Both are adjustments rather than replacements.
- Can I use the door while the motor is dead?
- Yes, via the manual release, provided the door itself is sound and balanced. If it feels heavy by hand, stop and call us.
- Do you repair all makes of operator?
- We work across the common makes and will tell you honestly when a control board or capacitor is genuinely unobtainable.
- How long does a replacement operator take to fit?
- A straight swap on a sound door is generally a single visit, including limit setting, safety testing and pairing new remotes.
- Is battery backup worth adding?
- If the garage is your main route into the house, or your car lives behind the door, yes — it removes the power cut problem entirely.
